Curling toe

A Quick Look at Some Hands and Feet Malformations.

Curling toe, also called Finger Overlapping is a rare very complex malformation of the fingers of the foot that must be framed in the context of a reduction in the transverse diameter of the forefoot with crowding and digital overlap.

The 5th finger is more frequently involved, but as in the images, it can also involve more fingers simultaneously, with serious problems with posture and walking.

The pathophysiology of this anomaly is complex cos’ of the common involvement of the extensor and flexor tendon system of the fingers,  laxity of the collateral ligaments, joint deformity, and no less important anomalies of the skin.

The case exposed shows the 4th and 5th finger crossed and superimposed, with secondary Clinodactyly and Camptodactyly.

It is possible to obtain the realignment in the digital supply chain of both rays of the 4th and 5th finger in a single surgical procedure, then repositioning the tendon systems, skin plastics, and digital separation with physiological reconstitution of the forefoot.
